BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN book available for pre-order

I’m in labour. My new book baby, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, is ready to be birthed (i.e. on pre-order).

I’m pretty much fully dilated and ready to expel this little monster into the world. She is the progeny of many creators (a gang-bang you may say, but please don’t judge me). She is also fully sensorial, which means as well as caressing your eyeballs, she will give you an olfactory experience you’ll never forget.

Mary: The graphic adventures of Brea Grant

My dear friend, Alexandra Heller-Nicholas, had recently interviewed the highly prolific horror filmmaker and actor Brea Grant for Fangoria. Her radar pinged when the subject turned to one of Brea’s upcoming projects: a graphic novel on the hypothetical adventures of Mary Shelley’s great-great-great-great-great granddaughter and the heavy literary burden such a teenager was likely to have carried on her shoulders.

Something of interest to Emma? Natch.

Given I am currently ensconced in my next book project on THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, Alex saw the opportunity for a professional hook-up. She introduced me to Brea, I interviewed Brea, Diabolique published the resulting article and the rest is history.

Introducing the BRIDE party

Despite a minor COVID-19 setback (i.e. postponement of my trip to LA), the BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN book is making excellent progress. It’s mutated into something, I would argue, is even better and more beautiful than my initial ambition: a compendium of essays from a murder of curated writers, with myself acting as the editor.

I’m pleased to make a first announcement of contributors who have agreed to etch their words in blood and dance naked under the full moon – Sally Christie, Lee Gambin, Dan Golding, Jon Towlson and Stephen A. Russell. Each writer has nominated a specific topic/theme of BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN on which they wish to focus.

Stay tuned for more news, as I’ll be revealing topics and further contributors as the project evolves. In the meantime…

Hunting THE BRIDE in Los Angeles

POSTPONED DUE TO COVID-19 TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

I’m heading to LA in the first two weeks of May! Why?

Because I am researching my book on BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN and, like Indiana Jones, I’m on a hunt for the Ark and whatever else I can uncover about this beautiful, important film.

Given this is a business trip, I’m open to any other cinema/film opportunities that might come my way. Stories? Interviews? Other potential jobs? Martinis at Musso & Frank’s? Hit me up with your requests.

I’m already looking forward to catching up with Mark Shostrom, Scott Essman, Tom Blunt, Sam Irvin, my LA housemate Louise Heseltine and the ghost of Ms Elsa Lanchester…

I am writing a new book: BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN

At my recent book launch, I had the pleasure of making an announcement: I’m writing a new book – another film monograph – on an extraordinary cinematic milestone, James Whale’s BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN from 1935.

The book will be written for Neil Snowdon’s Electric Dreamhouse Midnight Movie Monographs series and it will join other excellent titles such as Martin by Jez Winship, Spirits of the Dead (Histoires Extraordinaire) by Tim Lucas and my other favourite David Cronenberg film, The Brood by Stephen R. Bissette.

While research is underway, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN is slated for release in 2020/21, which might sound like an eternity away but will be here before you can say, ‘She’s alive! She’s alive!’ (and don’t forget my book on THE FLY is now available).
